Tutorial: How to apply polygel in 6 simple steps
Want to have long, shiny and super strong nails, without going to the salon? Polygel is the miracle solution: a perfect mix between acrylic and gel, but much easier to use at home. No more struggling with extensions that don’t hold or manicures that chip!
Before you start, I advise you to invest in a manicure kit, that way you have everything you need at hand and for a better price!
1. Apply a thin layer of Base Coat
The first step is to protect your nails with a base coat. It allows the polygel to adhere better and protects your natural nail. Apply a thin layer and pass your nails under the UV/LED lamp for 30 to 60 seconds.
2. Apply the polygel
With a spatula, take a small amount of polygel and place it directly on your nail or in a mold. No need to put too much at once, it’s better to do it in several times to avoid having too much product to model.
3. Shape the polygel with Slip Solution
Dip your brush in the slip solution (this liquid prevents the polygel from sticking to the brush) and start shaping the polygel. Smooth and stretch the material to adapt it to the shape of your nail or the mold, making sure that it is uniform and without air bubbles.
4. Cure under the UV/LED lamp
Once you have shaped the polygel to your liking, place your nail under the UV/LED lamp for 60 to 90 seconds to harden the material. Make sure the polygel is completely dry and hard before moving on to the next step.
5. File and Shape Your Nails
If you are using dual forms, gently remove them once the polygel is hardened. Then, file your nails with a nail drill machine and adjust the shape to your taste: square, rounded, almond…
6. Apply the Top Coat
To seal and protect your polygel, apply a thin layer of top coat on each nail. This is what will give that magnificent shine and make your manicure last for weeks! Run your nails under the UV/LED lamp one last time for 60 seconds.
Bonus: Hydrate Your Cuticles
A manicure doesn’t stop at the nails! For a perfect finish, apply a nourishing oil to your cuticles and massage gently. Your nails will not only be beautiful, but also well hydrated and healthy.
